9 beautiful travel accessories and tools

Aesthetics matter quite a lot to me, especially in the ordinary functions of life (after all, I'm the one who scoured the internet for a pretty toilet brush). The material beauty of our tools cooperates with a deep truth: these ordinary operations of life contain dignity. The beauty of our tools honors both our work and our humanity. Our tools could be beautiful or ugly, and when they're beautiful, they help express that these utilities of life are not meaningless.

When it comes to travel accessories and tools, the same philosophy applies: Why should it not be beautiful? Here are some beautiful travel accessories and tools to enjoy both using and beholding. These tools would also make wonderful gifts for a traveler you love.

  1. Mini hair brush: You’d think it would be pretty straightforward to design a hairbrush that functions well. I mean, humans have had hair for…ever. Yet we’ve tugged and pulled our way through seemingly a bazillion brushes before discovering the full-size version of this one. For travel, I like to pack a space-saving mini size. Like so many tools that I love, it’s simple and just works: no bells and whistles, no screaming colors, very well made, comfortable to hold.

  2. Compression packing cubes: Packing cubes instantly organize your luggage and allow you to easily keep track of where everything is while you're living out of a suitcase. The compression function means you can cram even more into your carry-on. This pretty set looks so much more appealing than industrial mesh versions.

  3. Toiletry case: How do I love this chic, structured, and roomy toiletry case? Let me count the ways. It holds more than makes sense with satisfying order. My favorite feature is how it opens flat so you don't have to fight to hold it open while you dig around. The vegan leather is wipe-clean and waterproof, and comes in two dozen color and pattern options along with this classic camel.

  4. Noise-canceling headphones: Pairing these with my favorite travel pillow has changed my flight experience. They're super comfortable, sound great, and fold up for packing, but we're also here for the chic matte finish.

  5. Embroidered monogram luggage tag: Just so much more elevated than a battered paper tag or cheap promotional freebie. Also comes in ballet pink, hot pink, lilac, and white. How about a matching set for your whole family or group?

  6. Mini portable charger: Portable chargers are non-negotiable modern travel essentials. This mini charger has integrated cables that fit a variety of inputs and is compact enough to throw into a pocket or purse. Choose from five colors including black, white, and pastels.

  7. Loop earplugs: Can earplugs be stylish? These certainly come close. They're an easy, comfortable solution to plane engines, loud seat neighbors, late-night street noise, and other disturbances.

  8. Leather passport cover: Keeping your passport wrinkle-free is crucial in a world of digital scanners. (Ask me how I learned that a crumpled passport page doesn't work at border control, sending you to the excruciatingly slow manual check line.) This slim cover also protects from hacking with RFID blocking, features multiple card clots and a cash pocket, and looks beautiful.

  9. Toiletry container set: Aren't these colors absolutely scrumptious? The ribbed silicone containers are leakproof and totally flexible so you can smoosh them down as needed. The set also includes optional hanging loops, funnels for filling, and a cleaning brush.
