Gift idea guide: Men

  1. Combat rosary, $33: This rosary is especially giftable because it is based upon the historic design of the 1916 WWI Service Combat Rosary that was carried by soldiers, sailors, and flying aces; beautiful, yet able to withstand harsh environments.

  2. Cashmere blend zip cardigan, $39: Upgrade an old hoodie with this well-constructed cardigan that looks great thrown on over pajama pants or going out to dinner; it has pockets, flannel lining, a ribbed collar, and ten color options.

  3. Deluxe thermal socks (4 pairs), $17: Have you ever had a random gift turn out to be the greatest hit? These socks went viral in our extended family after I got them as a stocking stuffer for Colin. They are freakishly soft and cozy with substantial bottoms that can sub in for house slippers.

  4. Airfly device, $35: Free him from tangly, cheap, annoying airline-provided headphones with this little gadget that uses the plane's wifi to convert streaming material to wireless earbuds.

  5. Iconic beanie, $20: You can never give or receive enough of these perfect beanies.

  6. Monastery soups cookbook, $17: This charming cookbook of monastery soups was first given to me by a French nun (my personal favorite is the Normandy carrot soup—but add some cayenne). There's something deeply appealing about the simple, brotherly recipes and anecdotes.

  7. Gin and juniper Castile soap (32 oz), $23: We're huge fans of Castile soap in general for its wide versatility in personal hygiene and housecleaning. This incredible-smelling version is a good opportunity to upgrade his daily routine and add some delight for weeks to come.

  8. Ball cap sweat liners (6), $28: End the destruction of his favorite ball caps with a set of these liners.

  9. Aeropress coffee maker, $50: Don't you just love a product that is impeccably engineered with no fuss? This coffee maker brews excellent coffee in any circumstance (even a moving bus) and all you need are beans and hot water. It comes in six other colors, including black and clear. Here's a travel version that consolidates all the components into one lidded container, which also doubles as a mug.

  10. Convertible vegan leather duffel, $40: If he's making do with a ratty old duffel for the gym or trips, give him this genius bag that also converts into a suit bag; the vegan leather wipes clean and looks better with wear.

  11. Classic go-with-everything sneakers, $65: Choose from five colorways including white and rich hunter green to pair with jeans, suits, and everything in between.

  12. Pocket knife, $23: This handsome tool comes from a heritage brand in France and folds up to just four inches. Opinel offers a wide collection of many other beautiful, durable knives.

  13. Apron, $15: An apron is the kind of gift you don't realize you need until you find yourself reaching for it in dozens of activities from grilling to cooking to cleaning up; this version looks particularly sharp and features thoughtful details like adjustable ties and strategic pockets (it also comes in nine colors).

  14. Heavyweight pouches set (5), $30: This gift will delight your organization-minded loved ones. These pouches are originally intended for tools, but they also make excellent toiletry bags or lunch bags. Gifting a whole set gives many options for use.

  15. Beer carbonator tap, $150: A splurgy gift, but a worthy one: I gave this tap to Colin for his pandemic birthday, when all the neighorhood bars were closed. The device turns any beer into a gorgeous, frothy pour. Black and gold, obviously. #whodat

  16. Drinking with the Saints (hardcover), $23: This collection features a year's worth of saints and feasts paired with cocktails inspired by their lives and stories. Mix up a Prompt Succor Punch, will you?

A note about Amazon

These links connect mostly to products sold on Amazon. This is not the only place you can buy most of these items, but I set it up this way because of Amazon's ubiquity (everyone I know already has a Prime account). You can also try finding the items you like at other retailers, local shops, or even use these ideas as a springboard to create gifts.
