Happy Thanksgiving!
Let us rejoice in the abundant blessings we have been given, among them living together in one the most beautiful places in creation. History is not just often but usually painful, messy, marred by darkness, selfishness, oppression, violence. Peace and freedom and abundance are the exceptions. Not a single one of us chose to exist, nor where or in what context. Yet here we are, alive and able to love. Thus, even in the shadows of history, we can still marvel at the overflowing good in our lives. Here we are, together, and how easily we could not have been. Thank God for so much light in darkness:
And now, bless the God of all, who has done wondrous things on earth,
who fosters people’s growth from their mother’s womb,
and fashions them according to his will!
May he grant you joy of heart and may peace abide among you;
May his goodness toward us endure in Israel to deliver us in our days.
