What does it say about your stage of life when your favorite things mostly have to do with sleeping and storage? Whatever it says, I'm here to share some truly wonderful things, no matter how humble they may be.
Bed pillows: A few years ago we "invested" in really nice pillows and an upscale mattress. Then, we bought an apartment that needed to be furnished. Turns out these affordable pillows are even better than the investment ones. Sweet dreams!
Polarized sunglasses: I lost my favorite Sunskis (grieve with me, please), so I decided to give these a try before reordering. They're wonderful! I can't get over the high quality for $15. They came with a soft case and a cleaning cloth. This shape is universally flattering and perfectly oversized without being absurd. Also in black, if that's your style.
Ribbed beanie: I just bought this for Colin's recent retreat in the tundras of Minnesota, and honestly? I think I may need one for myself. The warm fabric is lined with satin so your hair doesn't get crushed and staticky (genius!). The ribbing and thick cuff elevates the style, inasmuch as a beanie can be elevated. And it comes in 30 colors!
Organic liquid castile soap: I have an increasingly passionate love for this scrumptious organic soap that you can use for anything from body wash to shaving lather to floor cleaner. The fragrances are incredible—we've tried the Gin Juniper and the Sage Lime; both were fantastic and I am anxiously waiting for our bottle to run out so I can try the Tobacco Vanille or Bay Rum.
Mattress: See pillow note above. I will never, ever, ever get over that this wildly affordable mattress in a box far surpasses our investment mattress. We have one at our apartment and actually plan to replace the investment mattress with this one at home.
Cream fleece wide leg pants: I'm not really a sweatpants girl, but these wide leg fleece pants are supremely well made, warm, flattering, on trend, and feel like butter. I cannot stop wearing them, and I've even paired them with a cream sweater and ballet flats for a "real" outfit that is... sweatpants. They also come in black, chocolate, and gray.
Silicone twist ties: Please tell me I'm not the only one fighting a massive battle against teens who leave a wake of wide open bags in the pantry and freezer. We've tried clothespins, but they tend to fall off when some people throw packages back into place. These silicone twist ties are amazing! And cute! And they're working beautifully. If you're also neurotic or type A or just middle-aged, you're invited to come over and admire all of our now tightly-closed bags of cereal and crackers and smoothie fruit.
Organic cotton sheet set: Another shockingly great product found via furnishing our apartment; the organic cotton is super soft and crisp and washes well.
Toups and Company organic skincare products: Yes, once more I'd like to talk about beef tallow. These organic, non-toxic moisture products (frankincense tallow balm and tinted lip balm) are my winter non-negotiables. A teeny bit goes a long way. My jar lasts about two months with twice daily use. From this small-batch, small business, I also love, use daily, and subscribe to the the mineral makeup (a jar lasts me a few months).
Woven mary jane flats: I dislike buying shoes that aren't constructed of "real" materials because they don't last as long and I have found them difficult for my problem feet. However, these faux leather mary jane flats accommodate my orthotics and are soft, stretchy, adjustable, and come in wide widths and several colors. The soles aren't great—a little slippery and thin—but I found adding sole protectors solved that issue. I don't think these will last forever, but I really have been enjoying them and plan to bring them to our next trip. They're even comfortable for my long, long walks!
