Amazon travel favorites

These are some of my most-used, best-tested travel favorites. They're all available quickly and easily on Amazon. Save this post for gift ideas for your favorite traveler!

  • This compact umbrella simply works and keeps working. I always stash one in my carry-on backpack.

  • Thought you were stuck using tangly wired headphones, or those cheap, annoying airline-provided headphones? This little gadget uses the plane's wifi to convert streaming material to your wireless earbuds.

  • These waterproof, fleece-lined leggings have been so helpful on many trips and in many Mardi Gras and festival moments. I've appreciated how comfortable and well-made they are without costing a gazillion dollars (what is it with leggings??)

  • This little belt bag looks good, comes in dozens of colors, and will be super useful to keep you hands-free. No need to spend unnecessarily for those uber-trendy athletic wear brands.

  • These thin cotton undershirts are probably one of my favorite purchases of all time. They disappear under everything and protect your sweaters, dresses, tops, and other clothes so you can rewear them. I love how soft they feel. I use these constantly, and they always come with me on trips.

  • It's wise to bring a piece that can elevate your outfit for visiting sacred places, going to Mass, dressing for dinner, or just looking nice in your photos. I always pack a black slip skirt to mix and match with different tops. I love that this one feels silky but is super low-maintenance. You can roll it up and stuff it into whatever random corner of your suitcase is available. I often pair mine with the Saltwater sandals or sneakers.

  • A good pair of noise-reducing earplugs is always helpful.

  • I could sing on and on the praises of this backpack. It offers tons of pockets and compartments to keep you organized and has some smart features like security pockets, water-resistant exterior, and comfortable straps. I use this backpack as a carry-on personal item for longer trips, but it also suffices on its own for a weekend. Plus, the zippers are beautiful and function smoothly. Details!

  • If you're not using packing cubes yet, it's time. You'll love how instantly organized they make your luggage and how easily you'll be able to keep track of where everything is while you're living out of a suitcase.

  • This little flat-pack gadget bends and folds to hook onto anything (I use mine to hold my phone on seat backs or tray tables). Slip it in your bag and enjoy not using your phone at angles that destroy your neck.

  • Please tell me you wouldn't dream of drinking Starbucks or some other random coffee just because you're traveling. I have used this coffee press on a moving bus, in airports, and in more hotel rooms than I can count. It makes incredible coffee every time. All you need is a hot water source (and coffee, of course).

Have patience with all things, but chiefly have patience with yourself. Do not lose courage in considering your own imperfections, but instantly set about remedying them—every day begin the task anew.” +St Francis de Sales
